You are invited to help us kick off the new year with our monthly meeting of the Surry County Beekeepers Association on Monday, January 10, 2022 at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Extension office (915 E. Atkins Street, Dobson). There will be a business meeting followed by the program.

SCBA was awarded a grant in early 2020 that allowed us to create a bee yard with 30 hives. [ see more about grant here ] The grant was through NC Pesticide Environmental Trust Fund and tested the use of bee hive enclosures to help with the survival of bees where heavy pesticides were being used. The testing is complete and the results have been submitted.

Dr. David Tarpy at NC State University was included in this project and has provided a PowerPoint presentation covering the project and conclusions. We’ll be presenting the findings at this meeting.
